Inaugural Lecture: Planning the future mine

Professor Cuthbert Musingwini will deliver his inaugural lecture titled Multi-criteria optimisation using the Analytic Hierarchy Process: An emerging paradigm in planning the ‘Future Mine’? Planning the ‘Future Mine’ requires multiple, often conflicting decision criteria from different stakeholders to be considered simultaneously through some ‘trade-offs’ to achieve an optimal mine plan. When deciding under multiple criteria humans must rely on abstract  sthma thinking that has limitations, leading to inconsistent and sub-optimal decisions. Case studies are presented to illustrate the application of the Analytic Hierarchy Process to address these challenges and indicate that AHP is an emerging paradigm in planning the ‘Future Mine’.
