The Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA) University of Venda Branch, operating under the Department of Earth Sciences, serves students in the Hydrology and Water Resources (HWR) and Mining and Environmental Geology (MEG) programmes. Guided by its mission to empower students through professional development, academic excellence, industry exposure, and collaboration, the branch continues to demonstrate its commitment to making a tangible difference in students' lives.

The GSSA UNIVEN Branch exists to promote the advancement of geological sciences among students through academic engagement, professional development, leadership, networking, research awareness, geoheritage promotion, and participation in activities related to geology and earth sciences.
The Branch plays an important role in encouraging student involvement in:
o Geological and mining-related academic activities
o Professional growth and mentorship
o Geoheritage and environmental awareness
o Fieldwork, seminars, workshops, and conferences
o Collaboration between students and industry professionals
